4 Ways to Make a City More Walkable
Jeff Speck, a city planner and urban designer, advocates for more walkable cities
Cities can become more pedestrian friendly by following four planning principles
Speaking at a TED Talk, city planner and urban designer Jeff Speck shares four planning principles to transform sprawling cities with six-lane highways and 600-foot blocks into safe, walkable oases full of bike lanes and tree-lined streets.
In his talk Jeff explains how to build "a city in which a car is an optional instrument of freedom rather than a prosthetic device”.
He talks about four planning principles that allow cities to be walkable:
1. A reason to walk
2. A safe walk
3. A comfortable walk
4. An interesting walk
