Since the introduction of the 2017 Government Transformation Strategy, public sector bodies have set out to transform the relationship between citizen and state. However, a recent survey found that only 8% of contributors are ‘very confident’ in their organisation’s readiness to respond to digital challenges, and when it comes to digital self-service, only 37% of respondents said they were happy with the strategy in place.
As we enter what is being hailed “Industry 4.0” the use of digital technology is projected to be scaled up rapidly, some councils across the UK are already harnessing emerging technology like AI and Machine learning to help with public-facing services and call centres.
We have many strengths on which we can build, and some weaknesses we need to address. As we leave the European Union we need to raise our game at home and on the world stage, our annual Government Digital Tech congress will provide a high-value opportunity to listen, learn and engage directly with national policy shapers and some of the leading tech minds in the country.
